    THE BRIEF

    A prestigious client

Langley Design were delighted to work with S G Civil Engineering again and welcomed the opportunity to work locally. A prestigious client in BMW, Langley were tasked with providing a covered area for the employees to take lunch breaks and encourage outdoor dining.

The customer wanted something to soften the external area as they already had metal picnic tables in place. BMW wanted to give the employees the option of covered dining whether that be shade from the sun or more commonly in England the rain.

    THE BRIEF

    Transforming the space

Langley Design were honoured when asked to partner with Inland Homes on this new £95 million mixed-use development in Ashford. This development comprises of 442m2 of commercial space, 10 houses and 347 apartments. This has become a focal point for the high street and creates that hustle and bustle and injection of energy that has bought the town centre back to life.

We were given the task of transforming the external spaces into areas that can be used by all residents and visitors to relax and enjoy the surroundings.

    WHAT WE DID

    Comfort and style

With a fresh and modern look, our LBN107’s provide comfort and style, 43 of these are placed all around to ensure a sleek and uniform look throughout this development. Within the courtyard of the apartments two of our SPG300 pergolas are utilised to provide shelter but still allow sunlight to shine through on those summer days. Security in a town centre is imperative so our SCS315 cycle shelter which is fully enclosed with lockable gates was ideal in this scenario, allowing people to feel secure storing their bicycles.

    THE RESULT

    The whole package

At Langley Design we endeavour to aid the client with everything they require, providing the whole package makes things easier so the more we can do the better, baring this in mind we provided additional items such as bollards, cycle racks, bins and even wheel stops, so Inland Homes only needed to coordinate with Langley Design when it came to supply and installation of the street furniture here.

    WHAT WE DID

    Leaders in our industry

We have become the leading higher education provider in the UK for external furniture and our bespoke design capabilities enable us to offer the whole package to contractors. Our flexible manufacturing approaching combined with our engaging and welcoming team means we achieve all clients desires and outcomes, A prime example of this was working with the architects on the York project to incorporate bespoke mesh louvred panels into the refuse stores.

Our grey granite plinth mounted products are perfect for contractors as they remove the need for foundations, the products simply get placed onto a firm engineered base which allows the landscaping team to get their works complete without any interference.

    outdoor-wooden-bench-concrete-pillars

    WHAT WE DID

    Comfort and precision

We worked closely with the Landscape Architect lead to produce a range of seating products, design meetings were undertaken to make sure we had the backrests in the correct place and the curved seating radiuses perfectly lined up with the paving edge.

Thicker slats were requested on our seating which we were unable to incorporate easily and the desired outcome gave that extra quality feel to the seating, a public realm product in a student accommodation setting. Perch seating was also designed for the students to lean on, precast concrete cylinders were used to offer a large dining and social space.

    THE BRIEF

The whole package for the University of York

Cycle parking and students go hand in hand and we were able to manufacture a range of secured, covered timber stores that accommodated the bikes in either two tier parking or standard sheffield hoops.

If they don’t have a bike they may well be utilising the bus service, the students at York Uni will be waiting underneath a bespoke Langley Design Bus shelter, the galvanised and powder coated shelter with Glass Roof also  incorporates the same timber species used on the seating which allows a co-ordinate theme of street furniture across the site.

    WHAT WE DID

    A more attractive view

We provided our Sheldon SCS313 fully enclosed cycle shelter, after reviewing a couple of cycle racks arrangements with the architect Maber, that offered both secure storage for bicycles but also furnished the site an additional storage space. Manufactured in a Treated Class 4 Redwood, with galvanised steel leg columns, our attractive and visually appealing unit was topped with our standard sedum roofing system and further supported the biodiversity goals for the wider project.

By offering a more attractive view from the office space above, the sedum roof is edged with a washed pebble border and is a popular choice for projects where units are located in over-seen areas, where reducing rainwater surface run-off or increased sound insulation is required, and to support BREEAM requirements.

    THE RESULT

    Co-ordinated products

These galvanised steel shelters will stand the test of time in an industrial environment whilst still looking aesthetically pleasing. THE BRIEF

Updating Port of Tyne’s public spaces

The Dogger Bank Wind Farm, the largest offshore wind farm in the world, represents a remarkable milestone in the United Kingdom’s commitment to renewable energy and sustainability.

As part of the UK Green Building Council’s Net Zero Carbon Buildings Framework, this project was not only focused on generating clean energy but also on creating a sustainable and ecologically conscious environment for its workers and visitors.

    WHAT WE DID

    Working in collaboration

Langley Design worked in collaboration with Bowmer + Kirkland, a regular customer of ours, playing a pivotal role in shaping the project’s public spaces to meet the highest standards of sustainability, aesthetics, and functionality. Bowmer + Kirkland approached Langley Design to provide an outdoor shelter in the new communal areas as well as various seating around the site. These items were required to harmonize with the natural surroundings, support plant life, and provide a welcoming environment for the people working at or visiting the wind farm.

wide shot of the front of offices red building and glass building

    THE RESULT

    Reducing carbon

The shelter was built out of Sustainable FSC Hardwood Iroko to give a premium finish and included mesh panels to be used as climbing walls for future plant life. The bespoke designed picnic tables and benches were made in liaison with the contractor and architect’s requirements, again in Iroko, with powder-coated galvanised steel legs to match structures and facades already on site.

The use of Hardwood timber on new developments not only reduces carbon by storing CO2 from the air, but being a durable and hardwearing material also lessens the need for frequent replacements, in line with the principles of a circular economy.
