THE BRIEF

Private outdoor terraces

Langley Design were delighted to work with Bowmer & Kirkland on this £113 million Two New Bailey Square project.

This building is a mixed-use development which comprises of large open floor plates of up to 17,933 sq. ft and private outdoor terraces across 10 floors, which are built to the highest sustainability credentials with a ‘Grade A Excellent’ BREEAM rating.

We manufactured and installed our popular Sheldon picnic tables with matching benches to the rooftop terrace.

THE RESULT

Outstanding views

These were manufactured using class 4 treated redwood timber with a dark oak stain and galvanised metal frames.

This simple yet stylish design offers the perfect solution for working, dining, and socialising and allows the residents to enjoy the outstanding views across the city.

Totteridge Academy, London

THE BRIEF

Refurbishment project

Langley Design worked with Logan construction and ADP Architecture on this £1.3 million refurbishment project of Totteridge Academy. The refurbishment was to the existing school buildings, with additional works to science labs, external landscaping and remodelling of the existing access/egress routes.

Our street furniture range

We provided a range of street furniture products on this project including a large timber canopy, plinth mounted benches, concrete cubes and cycle hoops.

THE RESULT

Additional outdoor seating

The canopy provides a sheltered area for dining, socialising and learning with the clear non-fragile roofing allowing the light through but providing protection from the elements.

The concrete cubes not only provide additional outdoor seating but are also a great feature in the new garden area.

Calthorpe Park School, Hampshire

THE BRIEF

Street furniture products

Langley Design worked with Morgan Sindall on the £9 million Calthorpe Park School project in Fleet, North-East Hampshire where we manufactured and installed a package of street furniture products.

As a bespoke manufacturer, we were able to construct two steel canopies with a powder coated finish to match the architects design.

Outdoor covered seating

One of which is used for cycle parking and the other is an outdoor covered seating area which can be used for many purposes including teaching, socialising and dining.

We also furnished the courtyard spaces with a number of benches, litter bins and door barriers. The school opted for Douglas fir timber with a powder coated finish to complement the school’s colour scheme.

Kingsbrook View Primary Academy

THE BRIEF

Cycle Shelter for Primary Academy

Langley Design worked with Morgan Sindall on Kingsbrook Primary View Academy. The academy is a brand-new £11 million school project, situated within the wildlife-friendly Kingsbrook housing development in Aylesbury.

The school is run by the Inspiring Futures Partnership Trust and has brought 420 primary school places and 52 nursery places to this new housing development.

Bespoke semi-enclosed shelter

Langley Design manufactured and installed a bespoke Sedum Roof semi-enclosed timber cycle shelter which also allowed scooter parking. The Sheldon range of cycle shelters is the perfect solution for any site as they can be adapted to have a range of different roof materials.

THE RESULT

Eco-friendly solution

These stores can be fully enclosed and secure if required. Timber shelters allow clients to accommodate all cycle/scooter parking requirements whilst offering a much better aesthetic than the traditional steel units. All timber is PEFC or FSC certified and is a much more eco-friendly solution.

Build-to-rent development

Barking Wharf is a new build to rent development in Barking, London which consists of 4 apartment blocks housing 597 residential units. Langley Design worked with Midgard on this £38.5 million project to manufacture and install timber pergolas to the car park area.

Bespoke pergola car ports

These pergolas were used as car ports on this project. As specialists in manufacturing timber structures, we were specified by Outerspace Landscape Architects to provide several bespoke sized pergolas to offer some shading/designated car parking areas. Using structural grade timber enabled the client to have full confidence that these units are built to withstand the famous British weather.

These timber products complement the landscaping and provide an aesthetically pleasing solution for shaded car ports at this new state-of-the-art housing and retail development.

Harris Academy, Wimbledon

THE BRIEF

Creatively tailored

Harris Academy is a brand new 5 storey school in Wimbledon. Langley Design worked with Bowmer & Kirkland on this multi-million-pound project which accommodates 900 secondary pupils and 250 sixth form pupils.

The buildings architecture is creatively tailored to the tapering geometry of the site. Langley Design provided its Pewsham range of concrete benches to go into the academy’s playground.

Robust seating solution

Adding Timber to the top of the units can soften the concrete whilst offering a different visual and aesthetic for the playground. Given the durability of concrete, it makes it the ideal robust seating solution for the energetic school environment.

The cubes act as a single seat option for the pupils to work from whilst the longer benches encourage socialising. They are available in a range of colours and finishes to match the client’s site-specific requirements.

THE BRIEF

Exterior storage and seating

Langley Design worked with Rigg Construction on the new £2.7 million Westmead Activity Centre in Chippenham which provides a new climbing centre, a skate park and indoor and outdoor café areas.

Our extensive experience with manufacturing street furniture products and our flexible approach to each project enabled us to offer a bespoke Sheldon cycle shelter with an apex roof and timber clad ends to provide that extra protection against adverse weather conditions.

In keeping with the outdoor café, we also installed a timber canopy which spans across the terraced space and provides a sheltered area for the visitors without compromising on the light.

Fusion Point One is a multi-million pound office refurbishment in Cardiff providing sustainable and energy efficient accommodation for its users.

Langley Design worked closely with Paramount Interiors to produce a bespoke cycle storage solution for the buildings new external spaces.

Safe bicycle storage

Providing a capacity of 98 cycle spaces we utilised our Sheldon secure cycle shelter (SCS316) and Malford Semi Vertical cycle racks (MCR206) to create an attractive and robust storage facility for the buildings cyclists. We also offered an adaption to our popular Langley bench (LBN107), adding some additional timbers to the front and back faces which provides a comfortable and visually appealing touch to a Langley classic.

Cost-effective

To round off the external works we provided our timber planters, available in a variety of shapes and sizes to suit any projects requirement. These planters offer a cost effective and coordinated look to the finished space.

Flexible high-quality working space

The Catalyst Building at Staffordshire University is a new 8,800 sqm four-storey building, allowing the delivery of apprenticeships & practical skills in a flexible high-quality working space.

The new building provides social, study, and teaching resources as well as space for university events, community activities, food outlets and more.

Langley Design were approached by Vinci Construction to produce a secured external store incorporating galvanised weldmesh panels to house the site generator and bin store.

Using our bespoke manufacturing and design capabilities we provided an attractive unit based on our popular Sheldon product range, to allow for the generator to be fully housed and secured while delivering the required space for the storage of site bins and other items.

Exterior update for Trinity Academy

Langley Design worked with Galliford Try on the new £23 million Trinity Academy in Leeds which provides the surrounding areas with 1,200 school places.

We manufactured and installed our Sheldon timber enclosed cycle stores which provides a secure area for the pupils to park their bicycles whilst protecting them from the elements.

Secure bike parking facilities

Langley Design worked with WeBlack Ltd on the William Morris Close housing project in Oxford to manufacture and install a number of our timber enclosed sedum cycle shelters.

Carbon footprint offsetting

The green roofs on the cycle shelters help the structure blend into the landscape and offsets some of the carbon footprint created by the site with the roofing system being supported by a robust structure made with structural grade Class 4 timber.

Irene House, London

THE BRIEF

Keeping external areas tidy

Langley Design were pleased to work with ARJ Construction on the Irene House project in Balham, London. This £10 million project involved the conversion of a steel framed office block into 77 residential units.

We manufactured and installed our Sheldon timber bin stores (SBS304) in various sizes to provide refuse storage for the residents keeping these external areas clear and tidy.

Structural grade treated redwood

The bin stores were built using structural grade treated redwood and also with a fire retardant to provide extra protection due to their locations on site. All our bin stores, cycle shelters and canopy units are designed with wind and snow loadings and our bin store can be provide roofed or unroofed dependant on the projects specific requirements.

THE RESULT

Extra protection

The client opted for a R32 profiled metal roof on this project to provide extra protection from the elements, whilst also offering the opportunity to match the project colour scheme.

THE BRIEF

A visually stunning new link canopy

Located in Beverley, East Yorkshire, Longcroft School & 6^thForm College provides local students a rich and varied range of educational opportunities in addition to their formal curriculum, including drama and music productions, sports and their Skills for Life programme.

As part of the Priority School Building Programme 2 (PSBP2), Langley Design working alongside Henry Construction provided a visually stunning new link canopy and covered walkway uniting the schools existing buildings to the brand new block.

A striking splash of colour

The new block provides the school three additional floors of teaching space consisting of science labs & preparation rooms, a learning resource centre, teacher workroom and new student reception. The large Sheldon SPG326 canopy features a non-fragile polycarbonate roof, that provides cover and shade whilst offering a striking splash of colour to the scheme.

Durable and long lasting solution

The SPG326 is available in a range of materials, finishes and roofing colours suitable for a variety of project needs, and provided the school with additional space for the Sheldon Picnic Table set (SPT312/SBN310) offering extra dining facilities for the students, with black recycled plastic slats these are a durable and long lasting solution requiring almost no maintenance that will still look great in the years to come.

Working with Duffy Construction and using our bespoke design capabilities we manufactured and installed a stunning curved timber bench top affixed to the pre-cast concrete below.

Creating a relaxing, social aesthetic

Made from hardwood Cumaru with a rounded front edge and drip groove, the timber acts to soften the look of the concrete and provides a contrast between the landscape materials whilst forming a relaxing aesthetic, offering all employees and visitors a chance to enjoy the great outdoors with somewhere comfortable to sit, dine and socialise.
