Sometimes a little more general technical information is needed before a product is specified, purchased or installed.

Whether this is information regarding how to fix a product down or the foundation requirements.

Langley Design products can be installed in a variety of methods and to a range of foundation types, and the Technical team are available to contact if you have any further queries.

Fixing Options

Most products need fixing down to ensure security and stability, but the method in which they are fixed is dependent on the product and your project’s specific requirements.

Below are details on the various fixing types we offer to ensure you have the perfect option for your project specific needs. For further information on specific product fixing please contact the Langley Design team.

ROOT FIX/DIRECT EMBEDMENT (A)

This fixing option secures the product directly into the ground. Products with a root fix option (Type A), have an extended leg that is placed into a specially dug or core drilled hole in the ground and then fixed into position with concrete being poured around it.

BELOW GROUND BASE FIX (B)

This fixing option features level foundations pre-installed (all foundations are by others) 200mm below the finished floor level (FFL). Products with a below ground base fix option (Type B) have extended legs and a base plate which is then bolted directly to the foundation pad or slab. The finished surface around the product can then be completed to hide the product base plates from view.

SURFACE MOUNT (C)

This fixing option features products with a base plate or brackets which are then used to bolt the product down directly onto the finished surface. The foundation slab or pads are pre-installed (all foundations are by others) ready to accept the surface mount (Type C) product. Fixing holes are then drilled and the product is bolted down quickly and easily to the finished floor level (FFL).

PLINTH MOUNT (D)

Products with a plinth mount option require no in ground fixing, just a hard level engineered base. The product top is secured to the granite plinths with two-part resin. The plinths provide the support and weight to secure the product into position. We recommend our plinth mounted products are resin bonded to the finished surface for extra security and to prevent relocation following installation, ensuring the product tops remain correctly affixed to the plinth below. (If the product is moved in use, the bond of the top to the plinth should be checked). The advantages of this method of fixing means that any after any complicated paving or ground finishes have been completed before the product is installed.

WALL MOUNT (WM)

Taking advantage of new or existing walls on the project is a great way to save project space and costs. This fixing option uses steel or timber frameworks to secure products to the top of suitable walls creating a second use to an existing feature. We have a range of wall mounted fixings to suit different wall constructions.

FREE STANDING (FS)

Some products are manufactured to be sturdy and stable by design and therefore do not need to be fixed down. Free standing products can be placed directly onto finished grade and adjusted into position or moved easily if the extra space is required or if the product needs to be rearranged into another layout.

Foundations

Foundation sizes and a suitable fixing methods should be advised by the site engineer, but we can suggest size and fixing options to help make the decision easier. Continue reading to view more information about our products and their foundation requirements.

Foundations are necessary for most products, helping spread the load and giving a secure base to bolt down to. Although we do not provide or install them to support our products, we can supply our recommended foundation sizing or help advise your site / project engineer by providing loading information. The site engineer can then make the final decision on foundation size and design, including concrete grade and any reinforcing requirements whilst taking site conditions into account. Our products require all foundations to be level.
