Creating a modern twist

A new flat leg design was created alongside a modern twist on a traditional armrest, Iroko was chosen as the Timber species due to is quality, all metal elements were Galvanised and then Powder Coated to give it that extra superiority. The client was really keen to incorporate both benching and seating elements alongside providing enough spaces for passers-by to rest, eat and socialise.

The finishing touch

The bench/seat combination were provided at various lengths and the finishing touch was to engrave Capital & Centric Logo into the top slat to let everybody know whose seats these are.

De La Hayes Restaurant, Bourton-on-the-Water

THE BRIEF

Long-lasting seating

De la Haye’s Restaurant is a family run business situated in the heart of the Cotswolds with a beautiful indoor and alfresco dining area. The restaurant is located in Bourton-on-the-Water which is one of the most popular tourist spots in the region.

Langley Design were approached directly by the restaurant as they were looking for a long-lasting seating option that would enhance and attract customers to sit outside and enjoy the scenery in this quaint village.

WHAT WE DID

Brand new picnic tables

Our flexible approach to manufacturing allowed us to adapt an existing standard product to form the basis of the new design. From this, we used our bespoke design capabilities to create brand new picnic tables that tied in beautifully with the surroundings.

THE RESULT

Durable and maintenance-free

During the in-house manufacturing and installation period, recycled plastic was chosen over the more traditional timber construction due to the benefits of being durable and maintenance-free. It was also agreed with the client to galvanise and powder coat all metal work to RAL6011 – Reseda Green in order to match the building façade.

Langley Design project managed this scheme from start to finish and after installing all 23 tables, the site team were treated to some of De la Haye’s famous home-made dishes!

Station Road, Croydon

THE BRIEF

Practical ands stylish

The Station Road housing project reinvigorated a prominent corner plot in the centre of South Norwood by creating 14 new homes two minutes’ walk from Norwood Junction Station.

The site had previously been used as a surface level car park and had been vacant for nearly 30 years. Langley Design were tasked by Neilcott to provide a bespoke cycle and bin store facility that was not only practical but also something that looked fantastic so the residents can enjoy.

WHAT WE DID

High-quality cycle shelters

The scope was for high-quality cycle shelters with matching enclosed bin store and all the units to have sedum roofs. We needed to fit 18 spaces across two tight external areas. As the UK’s leading sedum roof cycle shelter provider, we were able to design this unit as per the architects’ plans, using premium Hardwood Cumaru and a galvanised and powder coated frame.

Maximum capacity

Semi Vertical racks were used inside the shelter to provide the maximum amount of capacity available in the space given, a perfect solution for urban residential projects.

We were also chosen to design manufacture and install a matching Cumaru screen behind one of the cycle stores to keep the design in keeping with the courtyard.

THE BRIEF

Enhances the external space

A new residential development offering contemporary apartments and penthouses designed for metropolitan living. This modern development required high quality landscaped areas with secured by design cycle parking to link with the building’s facade.

We provided a selection of sedum roof cycle shelters, that not only met the planning requirements, but also offered a secure cycle parking facility that enhances the external space.

A soft transition

The green roof timber shelters link the cladding of the building to the outside space and allow a soft transition when viewing from the courtyard from the surrounding balconies. To compliment the cycle parking, a range of curved benching units were also fitted to allow the residents to interact with the external space.

THE RESULT

Functional external solution

A large pergola was fitted to create an additional external seating area that is a little more secluded. As the planting scheme grows the timber pergola will naturally blend more into its surroundings and enhance the structure to provide more shade and privacy.

The street furniture package works perfectly alongside the building and creates a functional external solution, whilst never compromising the high design standard of this urban village in the centre on London.

Whole suite of furniture

Langley Design were asked by Torsion to provide a range of street furniture products for Sycamore House, a student accommodation development situated in Leeds which opened in September 2018.

In order to compliment the newly landscaped areas, we provided a whole suite of furniture from our Sheldon range that created a stunning visual across the courtyard. The products included picnic tables which offered both benching for dining and seating for studying, along with timber litter bins and stand alone benches.

We also managed to design a new L shaped bench that wrapped around existing coffee tables to increase the social seating provision. The most impressive feature of this development however has to be the unique structure we created. Utilising our bespoke manufacturing capabilities we were able to achieve the architects vision of combining a fully enclosed cycle shelter with a covered outdoor social space.

THE RESULT

Maximise functionality

This product is a fantastic way of showing what can be achieved by combining two structures to maximise the functionality of a unit. It offers an aesthetically pleasing and consistent product that doesn’t compromise on design.

The outcome of designing such a structure has now allowed somewhere for the students to securely store their bicycles and provided an additional covered area that could be used for outdoor dining, smoking and socialising amongst others.

THE BRIEF

Secured cycle shelters

Langley Design worked with Vinci on the £92 million University of Hull (West Campus), in which a former car park was transformed into a vibrant new student quarter linked to the main university campus.

The newly built student accommodation, which features 1,462 one-bed apartments, required a mix of secured cycle shelters and bin stores.

As a leading UK manufacturer of secured timber units, we put together a range of single story, two tier and combination bin store and cycle parking structures.

THE RESULT

Bespoke combination structure

We were able to provide a solution to house as many cycle parking spaces as possible, using our increased height units for the two tier racks and our bespoke combination structures which accommodate both bikes and bins.

Both of these enable the architect and client to have the aesthetics they require whilst also reducing the overall cost of the project.

True Student Birmingham (Upper Dean Street), Birmingham

THE BRIEF

External garden area

True Student Birmingham consists of a mixture of 399 self-contained studio bedrooms and cluster room apartments for the students of Birmingham.

Located centrally within the city offering easy access to the local shops and restaurants of the Bullring and New Street railway station, the new building also offers spaces for the students to study, exercise, relax and socialise. Langley Design were specified by KKA Architecture to provide the curved benching to the facilities external garden area.
