Sycamore House, Leeds
Langley Design were asked by Torsion to provide a range of street furniture products for Sycamore House, a student accommodation development situated in Leeds which opened in September 2018.
In order to compliment the newly landscaped areas, we provided a whole suite of furniture from our Sheldon range that created
a stunning visual across the courtyard. The products included picnic tables which offered both benching for dining and seating for studying, along with timber litter bins and stand alone benches. We also managed to design a new L shaped bench that wrapped around existing coffee tables to increase the social seating provision.
The most impressive feature of this development however has to be the unique structure we created. Utilising our bespoke
manufacturing capabilities we were able to achieve the architects vision of combining a fully enclosed cycle shelter with a
covered outdoor social space.
This product is a fantastic way of showing what can be achieved by combining two structures to maximise the functionality of a unit. It offers an aesthetically pleasing and consistent product that doesn’t compromise on design. The outcome of designing such a structure has now allowed somewhere for the students to securely store their bicycles and provided an additional covered area that could be used for outdoor dining, smoking and socialising amongst others.
