THE BRIEF
Bespoke street furniture designed for a landmark sustainable transport hub
Arle Court Transport Hub has been developed as a key transport interchange for Gloucestershire, providing modern park and ride facilities alongside enhanced cycling, walking and public transport connections. Designed to encourage sustainable travel and improve the passenger experience, Arle Court combines high quality infrastructure with attractive landscaped public spaces that create a welcoming environment for commuters and visitors.
Working with Kier and BDP, Langley Design were asked to design a bespoke package of seats and picnic tables, made from hardwood Iroko, to complement the contemporary design of the transport hub while providing long term durability in a busy public environment.

WHAT WE DID
Premium hardwood furniture designed for comfort and longevity
Langley Design crafted a fully bespoke and coordinated package of outdoor seating and picnic tables manufactured from sustainably sourced hardwood Iroko. Selected for its exceptional durability, natural beauty and low maintenance requirements, Iroko was the ideal material choice for this high traffic public transport environment.
48 Sheldon Seats (SST320) featuring hardwood Iroko slats and steel legs, galvanised and powder coated in RAL 7011, were designed and manufactured for installation across key locations throughout the transport hub. Positioned to provide comfortable and inviting places for passengers to rest while waiting for services or making onward connections, half of the seats were fitted with armrests to improve accessibility and user comfort. The rich golden-brown tones of the timber introduce warmth and character to the contemporary setting, softening the surrounding hard landscaping and helping to create a more welcoming public realm.
To further enhance the user experience, 12 bespoke Sheldon Picnic Tables (SPT325) made from hardwood Iroko were incorporated into the seating areas. These provide flexible spaces for visitors to eat, work, rest or socialise during their journey and creates a practical and functional space.
Manufactured to withstand the demands of year-round public use, the furniture combines robust construction with timeless design, ensuring long term durability with minimal maintenance requirements. The use of responsibly sourced hardwood also supports the project’s wider environmental objectives, aligning with the development’s commitment to sustainable infrastructure and considered material selection.
