University of Sussex East Slope Residences, Brighton
Langley Design collaborated with both Balfour Beatty and Adenstar on this extensive £200 million student accommodation project for the University of Sussex, this involved the demolition of 600 existing rooms to make way for residencies to comfortably house 2,117 students. The new East Slope student village comprises of for neighbourhoods, Bodiam, Camber, Lullington and Amberley. All 4 have a mixture of flats and townhouses with shared facilities to make sure all university students are catered for.
Using our expertise in bespoke design and manufacturing, we created a combi unit, one side being a bin store, the other a cycle store. With safety being of high importance this shelter was fully enclosed with access only allowed through a central double gate so students could leave their bikes reassured they would be protected. Further two-tier cycle shelters have been installed throughout the site by Langley Design in the same style, so you get a sleek, uniform feel across the whole village. Providing areas to rest and study or just catch up with friends, we provided our Langley benches and picnic tables which combine treated redwood and galvanised steel, keeping things modern yet practical. At Langley Design we love to provide the whole package for customers, so we even managed to source table tennis tables for students to enjoy some downtime and relax in between their lectures.
